Have I done some serious damage to my CPU?

Well, my story seem to be quite common amongst the noobs.

3 days ago I start building my pc for the first time.
I got all the hardwares plugged in for the testing, except the cpu cooler.
I thought it would be fine for a second of ten, I just needed to see if it start up properly. I thought it would only be a probleem if I were to overclock it.

But when I saw the black screen with "insert media driver" text I became to excited and start making photo with my iphone xD, forgetting about the cpu cooler.

I turned off everything right afterwards, after 1~2 min. Then I realised that I have forgotten about the cooler, I touched the cpu slightly to see if it got overheated badly. It was around 30~50 C. I am still not sure if it just cooled down really fast, or the operating temperatuur was really that low.

Anyway, I have been using my pc to play games and everything for 3 days without any probleem. But I am still worry.
Could I have done some serious hidden damage to my CPU?

My motherboard was an Asus Sabertooth Z77 and CPU was 3570k.

<strike> You could have damaged it leaving it off for too long. One of my friends had his pc knocked over in an earthquake and the cooler came loose. After a 10 mins of use and not knowing the cooler was loose the chip released the blue smoke. </strike>

Sorry, could have been PSU issue, but cooler was not seated properly anyway so I assumed. Does Pentium 4 have the TJmax shut off thing?

If the CPU overheats or starts too, I'm pretty sure the system automatically shuts itself off. You might have caused damage, but if it was a minute or two at idle and the CPU temps were really that low, there probably wasn't. Hopefully your CPU won't cause problems down the road...

Hope this helps

Edit: Agreed. You beat me to the answer! :p
