How can I remove an HDD without GRUB errors

Hello, I have WIN7 64 bit on a 64gb ssd and 2 extra HDD's on the same computer. I installed windows with the 2 hard drives installed and if I remove them I get a GRUB error, this could cause problems if i needed to replace one of them or if one failed. What can i do! Thank you!

  1. Do you have any other OS installed? But if GRUB complains about not being able to locate files, just update-grub. You can run that from a LiveCD if you want.

I don't have anything else installed, I was planning on getting ubuntu if I had more space but that isn't really an option. where can I update-grub?
  3. Windows does not install GRUB. So you must have a Linux distribution that installed GRUB. Hence my question.
