Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: this week

Budget Range: $700-$800 after shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, web browsing, word processing.

Are you buying a monitor: No

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I don't particularly have one.

Location: San Jose, California.

Parts Preferences: I don't have any particular preferences.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

When I say monitor, what I say is that I have a 32" hdtv that I was wondering if I could get away with using as a monitor (Seiki SC32HT04).

I've been playing around with a build on pcpartpicker, and this is what I've got so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1cp6l - but I'm not terribly attached to any of it.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor $179.99
Motherboard: ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP ATX LGA1155 Motherboard $74.99
RAM: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory $52.99
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $66.62
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card $199.99
Case: Thermaltake Commander MS/I Snow Edition (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case $39.99
Power Supply: Kingwin 650W ATX / BTX Power Supply $43.98
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) $89.98

This is the first time I've ever tried to build a computer, so I'm sure I've made quite a few mistakes.

Solution

Sorry but there was a compatibility issue with the other build between the mobo and the case. So I replaced the case.
Also I found out that you cannot use ssd caching in a amd system (though you can use it as a boot drive.. So I replaced the ssd caching drive with a 64 gb ssd and still the build is within your budget. (781 $)

Why don't you extend your budget by around 50$ and get a gtx 760.....It provides excellent bang for the buck...
Also try to get a ssd caching drive or a cheap ssd as a boot drive....It will be a huge leap for the snappiness of your pc

I too agree with trying for a 760, but it will be $70 more. For $20 more you can get a 7870. I'd go that route to maintain your budget.

Also, that USB 2.0 wifi is not good. Get one that plugs into your mobo and has 2 antennas.

At this point I'm inclined toward this one. That said, having never built a computer before how hard is it to implement SSD caching?
