Hi, I am looking to get a quiet Nvidia 580 3GB (I know it is an old card, if you are interested why I am going for this card please see http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1717330/advice-nvidia-580.html). I was looking at the Gainward Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 PHANTOM (which I can get for £215) but just sported a MSI GTX 580 Lightning Extreme Edition 3072mb which I may be able to get for less. Is this card likely to be quieter or noisier than the Gainward?

Purely interms of wattage it should be ample, but it's not just about wattage. I'd have serious doubts about the reliability of a lot of cheap PSU brands. Seasonic make the absolute best quality units, and other companies like XFX sell re-badged Seasonics at a more reasonable cost. PC Power and Cooling Silencer series and Silencer Mk III series are also re-badged Seasonics.

EDIT: Also, where are you buying from? £180 is a great deal already so I'd love to see an even better deal!

Its an auction. I think I will go for a Zalman ZM600-GT, read lots of good things about them.

Is http://www.dabs.com/products/xfx-550w-core-edition-80--bronze-psu-8K0S.html? one of the re-branded ones? Is there any point going to 600w? (I use it for video editing/grading and have 4x8GB DDR3, i5 3550 and 2 HDs).

Just to clarify, noise levels are VERY important for me. My current one is around 21 dba.

In terms of cheap PSUs I went years paying no more than £25 for them, and so do lots of people I know, without any problems. I only ended up spending more as I want quiet ones. By yes, I wouldn't go for really cheap ones.
