My daughter is building me a new computer and I I would like her to include n internal video card that will allow me to record 1080hd from a second cable box I rent and also play that video either at the same time on a moniter or tv or later.

Also one other thing. I am hard of hearing and use closed captioning continuously. With hdmi the cc is decoded by the cable box, not the tv. I would like to know if visible cc decoded by the cable box would appear in tge recording made by the capture card.

If you could answe that question and suggest a video card i would be appreciative..

Thank you.,
Kirk

What your looking for is a Capture card which records from a display input, a graphics card is what powers your games.

You would need something like this to record 1080p @30FPS.

You plug your cable box into the HDMI input on the back of the card, and set the card to record and it should capture everything that would normally appear on your TV screen from the box. It also acts as a passthrough, from its HDMI output you should be able to hook up a monitor/TV and be able to use the PC as normal.

Heres a review on it, it focuses on recording gameplay but should be good for any display input.

However I'm not too clued into these...

However I'm not too clued into these kinds of products, I recommended the above because it seems to support what you want if being a bit costly. Might be worth waiting until someone who knows a bit more about this kind of thing pops up on the thread.
