Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO vs Zalman CNPS 9900 Max

So i need an aftermarket cooler because the stock one is extremely loud and is driving me insane even though temps are ok and is doing its job but its just too loud sometimes. Now i was thinking of getting either the CM hyper 212 EVO or the Zalman CNPS 9900 Max. Here's the problem. the 212 EVO is 28$ cheaper (in my country) but i don't know if that price gap is worth. I'm getting it not just because te stock is driving me mad but because of future upgrades. If you know a better cooler or even a water cooler that is worth getting instead of these two let me know :D

I have the Evo and like it. Wouldn't spend any more unless going all out on a $100+ water cooler.

Supposedly the Xigmatech Gaia works a little better but should cost a little less.

are you sure that the Xigmatek Gaia is a little better than the 212 EVO? And yes, you were right, it is cheaper than the 212 but it confuses me that the Gaia has only 3 heat pipes whereas the 212 has 4 heat pipes. Also the Gaia has aluminium spots between the pipes while the 212 doesn't.

I like my zalman cnps 9900 max cools my oc x6 at 30c idle and 45c load with CnQ disabled, if i remember from a review one showed a few degree difference with the 9900 max and the evo, and one showed the same temps, $28 difference isnt bad, matters if u want the led lights or are going to buy led fans for the evo either is a good choice, but i would say the 9900 max is slightly better but maybe not worth the extra.

Also look at the xigmatek dark knight II with push pull fans it supposedly beats out a H100, it uses ceramic coating on the heatsink so has a nice matte black finish, and cools well too. Also the Phanteks PH-TC12DX is a good cooler for the cost at least in the US lol my friend uses one on his i7, works great

i checked on a few coolers that you mentioned. the dark knight II costs as same as the zalman CNPS 9900 (on a discount currently), the phanteks PH-TC12DX isn't available in my country. but what i'm fearing is the space i have between the CPU socket and the top of the case. the zalman is 131mm in length so half of that is 65,5mm and i measured the space from the center on the CPU to the top of the case and it has 68mm though i'm not quite sure because its a different story when the cooler gets in. the socket is very close to the top of the motherboard as with all other 970 chipset boards

From the specs i found the versa II has cpu cooler clearance of 155mm and height of the 9900 max is 152mm and the evo is 159mm so the zalman will barely fit and the evo will not

Found the cpu clearance on the cases newegg page and when u look for coolers height its the heatsink dimensions and not the fan dimensions lol almost made that mistake once

Edit: Dont think it'll interfere with the top of the case unless u have fans but then it shouldnt and if u have fans on the side panel then u need to find a smaller cooler as the 9900max is only 3mm from the panel lol

nope. the 155mm is measured if you have fans on the side panel, otherwise there's about 162mm (measured before but don't remember). Also i can't put any fans on the top of the case because its blocked by RAM (corsair vengeance having a tall heatsink).

so ur saying both coolers will fit height wise? and width the evo may cover ur ram and wont fit width with the fan pulling air in

that one depends on how i install it. i mean wasn't it a bit suspicious that a case is 196mm wide but can only support a CPU cooler of 155mm height? you can also clearly see on the pics that the side panel is bent toward the outside to make room for giant coolers. even if it didn't have enough room i'd have the side panel removed or cut it up just the same as i'll do to the top of the case if the zalman makes contact with it

Okay so if u know the height clearance is good for most coolers then what u wondering about now other than ur main question?

i ordered the zalman CNPS 9900 max a few minutes ago :D  i found a review of it here: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/zalman_cnps_9900_m...
it seems like its quite a performer for the money and i like its design way more than the 212 EVO which i consider average looking
