Hello all,

I like spending some time on gaming, but it can be very difficult to enjoy the game, because of lag.

Normally my ping is around 30-40, so I guess that’s just fine, but from time to time the ping goes high like 100-300, it makes it really hard play.

Well I have gone through different things to solve this problem, but nothing has worked so far.
Since the problem has been there for a while I have been taking some notes, that might give a clue.
If I play very late, there probably wont be that much lag, than if I was playing in the afternoon. It might as well be worth to mention that I’m using wireless network and Windows 7.

What I’ve tried with out luck:

- Changed from Windows 7 to Windows XP (Since people said there were some issues with the 7's driver.)
- Updatet network driver.
- Changed channel in my router.
- Cahnged HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile – to FFFFFFFF.
- Different network optimizer.

Anyway my thoughts is to see what happens if I change to lan network? Any ideas what I might try?

To show what I'm talking about I took a quick test on my ping.

It is because you're using a wireless network. Why not try using a LAN? It would be more stable, way more stable than wireless. That's what you sacrifice when you use a wireless connection. Or you can get a high end wifi receiver.

Hey again.

Just back from a visit.

I've been testing the internet connection with the lan solution. Unfortunately it did not go as hoped, but it got a lot better.

Well I tried to visit a friend to see how my pc works at his place, and everything went well. I guess that leaves me with a network issue...

Good advice are very welcome – At the moment I'm thinking the problem might be created by my router, but I ain't no expert.

You mentioned that the problem is more severe during the daytime, as opposed to late at night. Is there anyone else using your network during the day? someone else using the web at the same time will slow your connection. If your router supports it, you could always try enabling QoS and give your device priority over any others.

That's correct, but no one is actually using the net when I did these tests, so that can't be the reason. These lag spikes can happen in the late night, but during daytime it happens more often.

I have tried to enable QoS, but really no different..

The wired part is that it has been working for like 2 years ago, but then the lag spikes showed up for a unknown reason.

First try calling your provider. If they don't respond well (as expected), try changing your lan cable to the high speed one, the blue one.

Hello again guys!

I have done a few test again.

I may have informed wrong from the start.
I can tell that I have no lag spikes when I am the only one online, but if another computer is on for example youtube, then it cause lag

How can I solve this problem so we can all be on?

Download speed: 14 Mbps
Upload speed: 2 Mbit

Of course it would lag because you share the same bandwidth. You can allocate a max bandwidth for a certain IP so that your game wouldn't be affected.
