Hi everybody.
I'm sure there are many other topics similar to this one - and I have researched a fair few of them but they all seem to have unique issues - so here goes mine.

I've recently purchased a brand spankin' new computer mainly for gaming but under heavy loads (I'm talking Arma3 beta on maximum settings) the computer restarts automatically. It will run less demanding games no problems at all. Nothing is overclocked but I have turned off the Anti-surge protection BIOS setting as i have heard on the Z87-A motherboard it is not a great bit of kit.
-Note: This problem occurred before turning the anti-surge protection off - but on restart showed a splash screen describing the anti-surge protection... etc - after i switched it off the computer reboots as if nothing occurred.

My computer specs:

i7 4770k Haswell 3.5Ghz socket 1150 8mb cache
Palit GTX770 2gb GDDR5
Asus Z87-A socket 1150 motherboard BIOS version 12.03
16gb crucial ballistix sport DDR3 1600mhz CL9 Sport RAM
Tesla 750W PSU

thanks
andy

yes that's the one

These results are consistent with a cheap PSU-shaped object. Be aware that if your PC is shutting off because the PSU is wandering out of spec, it is possible that the PSU could slowly be damaging your parts. If you bought the whole thing new, I'd return it under warranty and insist that the replacement use a QUALITY PSU.

I've been keeping logs and a constant eye on GPU and CPU temperatures + voltage usage. The GPU never goes above 80 celcius and the CPU not even 50 celcius

perfect answer couldn't say it better myself.

Here is the quick and dirty. We don't know if the temp sensors on your system work right. so pop the side of your case off and stick a room fan in the opening. run it on high, turn on your system and see if you can play your game without issue. If the problem doesn't come back you have a temp issue and you know something isn't reporting temps right. Haswell runs VERY hot. Don't assume your cpu cooler or case airflow is up to keeping up with it.

If the problem continues i think all the fingers point to the psu being junk. try another one and see if that fixes the problem.

that's an interesting though, hadn't thought of the temperature sensors possibly being incorrect. I'll try doing this now and get back to you
