There is probably no PC you can build today that will still be playing games smoothly at max settings in 4 years time.

You do have a decent enough system to play pretty much anything that's coming up in the next year or so but soon you will find you need to start lowering settings or taking a hit to framerates. You are still in a good position to throw in another 770 for SLI if the board supports it and that should keep you going for a good while yet.

Obviously, you can't see into the future, but by the looks of it, everything but the GPU at this point. You've got a good GPU with a lot of VRAM. That will probably come in handy when games start getting crazy demanding. The processor has some old architecture even today. 8GB of RAM is low end these days. Most gamers would prefer 16 and that's today. 3-4 years from now is a long time and an even larger gap in technology. I would recommend getting as much as you can out of your current build and when the time comes that your rig is not sufficient for what you want to do with it, then upgrade in a big way.

nah my last build from 4 years can still run most games on medium. It didn't have the best parts either.

yes but not now. maybe in 1 - 2 years. I mean that cpu you got there is already 2 years old. What i suggest is just use the pc as is and then upgrade when you feel like it cant handle your demands. Parts will be cheaper/better by then anyways. Im using the same thing btw.

Key word is "medium." OP wants max settings.

i know. I originally stated that max setting will not be possible, but he might still get high/medium.

Next you replied you disagree and said the pc will be obsolete by then. Which then I disagreed by giving you an example.

I define obsolete as a pc that can barely run a game on low.

Follow me?

Security!!!:D I personally think Sandy will be obsolete by then. Think about how far 3-4 years is from now. They come out with new architecture what seems like every 6 months... And according to the theory of technological singularity, citation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:pPTMooresLawai.jpg the next 3-4 years will see advances beyond that of the last 3-4 years. :)

that tongue smiley face is killing the link... it's colon P in place of the tongue smiley for reference

Edit: GRRRRR here... Linkage

Well they have only been increasing performance by 10-15% on the cpus since sandy bridge. Not that great. Also they release new architects closer to 1.5 years.

I think moore's law doesn't apply anymore

maybe. my recommendation is don't buy anything else and just use what you got. You can always upgrade 2 years from now and that same cpu will cost much less

good plan :)

lol all this doom and gloom... you have a fast quad core which has more potential horsepower than either the quad core in the xbox1 or the 8 core in the ps4. yes they may be able to handle higher thread counts but your cpu is more than x2 faster so it will keep up there.
your gpu is about x2 as powerful as the ps4's gfx solution so no worries there.
so yesy your pc is plenty powerful enough to max out anything they release on console for the next 4 years. there will be some pc games that like crysis 3 will push the envelope but they will be few and far between for now. but even so you will still be able to play them games at medium settings in 3-4 years...

you gotta lol at all this talk of obsolete. pure elitism. you guys are completely forgetting the consoles drive game development forward for the most part with program optimization while pc's solve performance by throwing more physical grunt at it.
