PSU for Phenom ii x4 965 + HD 7870

Solution

Ph II is old tech. FX 6300 is current. FX 6300 has 6 cores vs the Ph II's 4. Games are starting to take advantage of more than 2-3 cores. That will only increase going forward as PS4 and Xbox One ports start rolling out. Both are using a custom AMD 8 core APU.

No OC'ing pour moi, and at the mo a single HD7870 seems better than getting another HD 7750 (I already have one for my current, shocking Dell PC haha)

Why would you choose an FX 6300 over a PH ii x4? is the FX more future-proof from your judgement? (I know this is going back on my previous qu; now I'm curious) :]

Cheers, guys. :)

The FX-6300 is a newer technology than the PII965, so from that standpoint it is more futureproof..

Yeah, I wrote another qu about 5 minutes ago that lead on to choosing the FX, so, yeah! FX it is...

But, could I get away with an XFX (80+ B) 450W PSU? Or is it not worth the risk?

AMD recommends a 500wPSU for the 7870..

I would rather have too large a PSU than one just barely enough. The PSU is the heart of your system, NOTHING works without it, and it is the only component that can take out ALL of your other components if it should fail.

Don't skimp on the PSU.. it is false economy.:bounce:
