Im planning on purchasing a Asus laptop witha a intel core i5 3337u at 1.8 GHz and it has a geforce gt 740m and i wold like it for some occasional gaming (far cry3, bf3, and WarZ) so I would like to know if this cpu is going to bottleneck the gpu.

Thanks!

Solution

Probably not, since it has hyperthreading it will have 2 extra virtual cores. (4 in total) and it boost up to 2.7. However, in battlefield 3, a CPU intensive game, there will most likely be a bottleneck. I recommend to buy your own parts and build a desktop. Or put more money into a gaming laptop.

Thanks for the answer, when it bottlenecks it will it be at unplayable FPS or would I just have to lower the graphics quality?

The desktop is the best solution but I cannot sacrifice mobility over power and my budget is pretty limited :(

According to this article, http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-740M.89900.0.html you have to lower the setting to low, in order to get around 40fps. Scroll down until you see Battlefield 3. EDIT: This also depends on your laptop's resolution.
