hi, my hp sleek book 14 had windows 8 in it, but i want to use windows 7 instead. I am using a 4GB usb drive to install the OS. the installation starts and runs well but right at the end, after Starting Services" it says "windows setup cannot configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" and then that's it.

Anyone got an idea what's going on?

I tried to look for the sata setting ahci or ide but i cannot see it in the BIOS utility.

Please help anyone.

reinstalling an OS on a laptop is a slippery slope of sorts. you need to have all your model specific drivers ready, and I don't know for sure if HP even offers them. if you have a touchscreen laptop, this further complicates things as windows 7 wasn't really designed to use them. I would recommend looking up the model on the manufacturer's website to see if any driver packages are available for it. also, I hope you kept the old hard drive with windows 8 on it, as you may not be able to make this work.

My next step is to re-install win 7 with SP1 on it. Other than that I will have to go back to win 8. Thanks for your reply. I will let share the ::hopefully:: good news after my attempt with win 7 SP1

So i needed my laptop to be up and running as soon as possible. So i re-installed Win8 just to have a running machine. It works perfectly. Going back to the more practical windows 7 is a near future thing..but it'll happen.

thanks anyway for the replies.

I know you already checked but Im sure it is the Laptop is set to a RAID. I have a Dell Latitude E6410 and had the same problem. The laptop is set to RAID by default. I switched it to AHCI in the BIOS and it did the trick. Windows installed with no problems. Maybe try updating the BIOS from the HP website if you can't find the SATA operation section. You can also try to install the RAID driver if you can't find it. Here is the Microsoft website that might help on the subject.
