Hi,

I'm looking for a new SSD for my Macbook. It only supports SATA 3.

Which is a better choice:

Corsair Force Series 3 180GB $140
Intel 330 Series 180GB $160

Is it worth even upgrading since I only have SATA 3.0?

Solution
well, the corsair force series 3 ssd has faster specs, but their software is a little flakey. Intel has a proven track record of stability and performance, and their migration software is excellent. The SSD toolbox will optimize your system for SSD (disabling defrag and other options). the only problem is I've never migrated a MAC system to a SSD, and don't know if its even possible. im sure it is, but I don't know if the software used for migration is even compatible. seek a mac enthusiast for specifics.

and yes, going from a spinning disk to SSD is worth the upgrade, whether its a PC or a Mac. you will see 4x speeds on progam loads, minimum. easily the best upgrade you can perform on a computer.

Wait, do you have SATA 3.0 (which is 6GB/s), or SATA 3GB/s (Which is SATA II)?

Either way, yes, it will still make a difference - a huge one. Tom's did an article on this a while back, and it's absolutely worth it. That being said, there are two things I would look at:

1) What is the mac compatible with? I don't know if they still require you to have mac branded hard drives or not, but if they do, you're SOL.

2) Why in the world are you choosing from those drives? They're older, less reliable, and slower. Get a Samsung 840 (non-pro) in the capacity you need, and you're golden.

Just checked the specs for those SSD's of yours and I must say Corsair Force Series 3 180GB is better.
Corsair is 20-30% faster than the Intel SSD.
Also Corsair is cheaper :D

SATA II (3 GB/s)

The reason I chose those two SSDs is for capacity. I'm looking for something a bit bigger than 120 GB but under 256 GB.

I'm open to suggestions though!

Any SSD should be compatible with a Mac (to my knowledge)
