Is only my motherboard fried?

Lightning got my Alienware x51 though only my usb tv tuner that was connected to the tv antenna. It didnt hit any thing that was plugged into the electric sockets in my rooms. Also it hit my Xbox 360 though the ethernet, so that wont work anymore.

The computer was unplugged from the wall socket. All my usb devices work. Just that my computer wont turn on anymore.

I think its just my motherboard that is fried. It doesnt look like anything else in my pc was damaged.

So should I just buy a new motherboard and psu and put my computer back together in my spare computer case? Buy the same motherboard for my x51 and replace it? Or should I contact a computer repair place?

Be nice to have some extra room for my gpu and maybe one more.

The guy who fixed our internet after the lightning strike said likely its only the tv tuner that went out or just the motherboard.

I just hope its as simple as only the motherboard being fried, because that would be cheap to fix.

Electricity takes the path of least resistance (Ohm's Law). It doesn't matter if the surge originated from, if it went through the computer, depending upon the path to ground, it can miss external devices like a keyboard, external hard drive, etc...., because they are insulated from ground.

When using an antenna, especially an external one, you should always have it grounded properly, and also make sure you have a surge suppressor in the house (for coax cable) between the antenna and any devices.

With it not being plugged in, chances are unless there was another path to ground, it might have missed other components....but we can sit and theorize all day on that....LOL.
Chances are more is damaged than just the motherboard. If you have the time and patience, you can try to replace only mobo/psu...but be prepared for several trips to the store.

If time is more valuable, pay the $75 (approximately) that it would cost for the computer store to tell you what is wrong....it could be everything in the case....

Does it make a difference when my computer was unplugged from the wall?

No need to speculate what the lightning did to my computer. It must have just damaged my motherboard. All I bought was a psu and motherboard and now my computer works like normal.
