Closing programs because of not enough RAM (8Gb)

Hey all,

Since a few months, occasionally the program/game I'm working is forced to close with an error telling me "the program shut down to prevent loss of data because I don't have enough memory".

This is while I have 8Gb which should be more than enough. But it appears I'm using 6.09Gb of it (after closing the main program/game!)

When I look at the processes and I count them together, they use only 1 Gb?

So where is all the other RAM gone?

Help would be appreciated :)

That seems very odd... it may have just been a faulty reading that caused it to red extra GB. I would run a virus scan to be sure... those can use up hidden ram like that.
The processes are active things running on the ram, the ram usage counts everything on the system. Im using 2.7 right now and processes only add up to under 1gb. So its just being used for things that arent running as processes. I would recommend adding more ram if you can.

The weird thing is, right now I just started the computer, and I'm at 2,84Gb RAM usage right now, which seems normal.

I am running the EXACT same programs I was running yesterday (process list picture)
How come it used 3Gb of extra RAM for that?
