If your headset is old, try to tweak the balance towards the side which doesn't play sound. Sometimes old headsets don't play well with new audio rivers.

But if your headset is new, get it checked and replaced if necessary.

hi, do you mean you have a set of speakers and the headphones is connected to it? Dunno if thats it, but check the audio jack is all the way in for the speakers. Speaker jacks will have two ribs for left and right, so they both need to be inserted. You'll feel the notch twice.

what are the speakers?

Have you double checked the connections, have you swapped the speakers around to test? Have you tried headphones from the green audio jack?

Do you have the color code right at the back of the computer?

Green: fronts
Orange: Center/sub
Black: Rear

This doesn't sound like software problem.

Alright, not sounding good at the moment if the headphones are doing the same thing. Guess at this point the speakers are fine. If you have anywhere else you could try them to be sure (TV headphone jack)

Your motherboard is using Realtek sound, http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false (Check the agree box and download the version 32bit/64bit for your operating system)

Try reinstalling their latest driver, if it still isnt working then probably have faulty audio connection somewhere on the motherboard in which case buying a sound card would be an option to consider and disable/ditching the onboard sound altogether.
