I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to the gtx 770. Based on my specs, and the current climate in cpu architecture, ( amd underpowered, haswell no significant platform upgrade). Should i do this and keep my current build, upgrading cpu and mobo later, or spend less on the graphics card and upgrade everything now. Another wrinkle to my setup is gaming on a samsung 720p plasma (I love it!). Keep in mind my current budget for upgrades is only $600. My specs are as follows.

Core 2 duo e7200 @3.6 ghz
8 gb ddr2 ram
asus p5q pro motherboard
128 gb ssd
Ati 4870

720p gaming is light on resources, compared to 1080p. I say upgrade everything. But don't go for such high end gpu, get more balanced performance.

AMD has plenty CPU's that are way stronger than that core 2 duo you have. Don't take them lightly. And gaming is more threaded now. I say go with something like this :

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($92.55 @ Newegg)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($255.66 @...
