Really bad situation...what could this be?

Alright so in a nutshell, I upgraded some parts for my homebuilt, had problems with windows, decided to reinstall windows, still had trouble with software, and right before I had a chance to use memtest86 the computer...just stopped working.

Well, first I turned off the computer, then I removed a single stick of 4GB ram, and then after trying to turn it on it wouldn't.

The PSU is absolutely new, a Corsair CX600M, so I didn't think it could be possible, but now the computer doesn't seem to be turning on at all.

Essentially, I tried to turn it on/off, and nothing but thee fans started working. I don't think any power got to the MOBO, and I do't have any idea as to why this happened. This happened for two more reboots, and I flipped the switch on the PSU a couple of times which just caused some LED's and fans to start for a second, but only a second.

Now no matter what position the button is in, the computer absolutely won't start.

So I essentially dropped in nearly $1000 for this thing and I'm sitting here terrified that I fried the MOBO, lost the RAM, and among other parts, also have to replace the CPU. Which, since that $1000 was pretty much over the course of a few months, I don't think I'll be replacing anything any time soon.

Anybody have any good news for me, or least information?

Managed to boot the PC up! Not even sure what happened, but am able to run memtest86 if I boot from the optical drive...and one stick of RAM is at 20k+ errors and counting, from what it looks like every single line is n error.

Not expecting much better from my other stick, could this/is this the reason why the computer has been so buggy? Why would this be happening?

I'm guessing either the slot itself is buggy, I will try a different one afterwards to see if the same errors occur. I would try testing the RAM on another PC but unfortunately don't have access.

Could this be that my mobo is shot? I wouldn't see why as I had literally just gotten it. Heck I still think I can return it at the moment, got it less than two months ago. What could be the reason for nearly every sector of the RAM being an error?

Ugh...And the PSU isn't working again after I tried to reboot for another memtest.

I think I may have found the problem with the ram...there was some weird gunk, think it may have been some thermal paste which I didn't notice on the RAM :p. I removed it now, and put in the other RAM stick in (into another slot as well) just to see how it would go, but now am unable to boot up.

Is this a problem with the PSU? IS there any reason it would not boot up and then be able to boot up again later?

Anybody have any ideas :(
Every time I try to turn the power on now everything "flashes" on for a second, but after that won't power up.

What could've caused a new PSU to do this? Will I have to replace it?

Was unable to do a BIOS reset at the time but the PSU seems to be working now, very odd.

I'm afraid to do any actual shut down now as rebooting seems to work and worked fine, but shutting the actual computer down beforehand seemed to stop it from powering up. Do you think I should reset the BIOS still? Not sure what caused the problem or how to avoid it if at all possible :x don't think it's a short since it seems to work on and off.
