hi, I recently buyed a noctua cooler, i heard that they are very good. But I overclocked to 4.4 Ghz and the temperature readings are WAY to high (nearly 90) when doing stress tests. My question is, is this normal? do you need to install a driver or something so it works porperly?

my specs are: 4th generation i5 4670K processor, msi Z87-G45 Gaming motherboard, 2X4GB of RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 GPU

Solution

That could very well be your problem, that it's not...

No you don't need any drivers. I had a NH-D14 before I got a closed loop cooler, it kept my cpu quite cool. I only took it out because I couldn't access my ram and had very little room to maneuver for maintenance.

What model is yours?

ah im not really shure, I have the box in the garage (and im quite lazy :p) but it is one with to fans, one in the middle, like the nh-d14, and did you just install yours and thats it, or did you do something in the BIOS?

Nah man, just applied my thermal paste, fastened it to my board, fastened my fans to my heatsink, and plugged in the cpu fan connectors.

What temps are you getting at stock speeds?

around 40 C, but I remember that after installing the heatsink with the thermal paste and all, I had to remove all the cooler because I couldnt reach some plugs for some cables, and I installed it again without applying thermal paste again, could it be that?

That could very well be your problem, that it's not properly transferring heat. My advice is to remove the heatsink again, clean the processor and heatsink (dabbing coffee filters in rubbing alcohol works well), and reapply the thermal paste. Hopefully that will help fix your problem.

My i5 3570K is on an Antec Kuhler 920 right now, but it idles at 31 and I haven't seen it past 70 yet clocked at 4.2ghz. The nh-d14 was fairly similar to those temps, it idled at 29 and ran about as hot as it does now.
