I came here to ask what is the best option for a NAS.
What i used in the past was an external WD HDD attached to my comp.
I have been meaning to upgrade to a NAS setup for months now. Its only until now I decided to upgrade because my current HD decided to die on me.
I'm asking the tomshardware community because i have tried to research the idea of getting a NAS but am overwhelmed by all of the options. What with raid, SSD, read and write, bays, backup etc. I'm mostly, if not partly, curious if anyone has a setup they trust and has worked for them for upwards of months or so.
The features I'm upgrading too. Which means I don't mind other features, its just that I am building my next setup to have these features:

■Network Attached, As opposed to being USB to a comp.
■FTP, I always liked accessing my project files over the internet.
■Media Server, As of the past couple of years my family has grown, and so has their space demand for movies and pictures. Having those accessible by game consoles and TVs would make it that much easier for my 6 year old to understand it.
■Backup, And this is absolutely a must. Seeing as i just lost a ton of project files, pictures, videos, and other data due to my last HD failure, I thought it was a must have this time around.
