Hi, I got an older setup that I would like to stuff a new video card in till the CPU/Mobo becomes the more serious bottleneck or till I get diminishing returns so to speak.
Running a Core 2 quad Q8300 oc'd to 2.8 ghz to achieve 1600mhz on DDR3 ram on a Intel DX48BT2 mobo. Current vid card is a HD4650.
Yea, I know the processor is old, but I can't upgrade that end for a while, but I can upgrade the video card.

So, what I can I stuff on this board till the cpu is just completely overwhelmed lol. I suppose I could OC the cpu a little more too, but the current video card is just blah.

Why AMD do you mind me asking? Is it just your preference?

On that basis a 7850 is what Id recommend, but a 7870 is sub 300 and a 7950 is about 300. The 7870/7950 will be bottlenecked.

I would suggest anything above a GTX 660 will be bottlenecked by your CPU. Increasing your OC to 3ghz + might get you a few more FPS, but beyond that level of card, you really are wasting money.

Yea, everytime I've had a nvidia card it has acted weird. Like colors were different for example. Not quite as crisp or made things look weird. Although that was on older cards however. I'm sure things are probably better, but for now I need to stick with something that I know. Thanks for the help =D
