Hey, I have recently acquired the Compaq Presario SR1705 and I am interested in upgrading the processor and maybe the graphics card. I have tried to research on what processors the motherboard can actually support and couldn't gain a complete definite answer. It would be great if anyone could point me in the right direction to what is the best processor that could be compatible for it.

This is the spec sheet I could find online: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c00597578

Please could you help me out? Thank's.

Well, there are some decent LGA775 Xeon processors. Of course, it being a dead line now, you won't find any modern models.
Considering a more powerful i3 core computer is cheaply sold as low as $300 at Walmart even as a laptop these days (I actually got a i5 core laptop for only $249 from Fry's Electronics because I went the week before Black Friday when they needed to get rid of stock to make room for the sale items) I wouldn't bother with such upgrades. If you plan to game, plunk for a simple $300 desktop at Walmart, then upgrade the PSU then Video card for much less then many gaming systems, and get along okay with that for a long while

And are you sure that if I were to get my hands on the Xeon processor it would definitely work with my current motherboard? Thank's for the info so far.

Don't waste your time with LGA 775. Its a dead socket and it would bottleneck any good card. The processors for the 775 are also cost way too much for the performance they give.

Its best to get 1150 or AM3+ if you are interested in keeping your PC up to speed.
