fx 6350 vs 8350 gaming

im kinda confused, need some input. from everything iv been reading it seems that in all modern games the 8350 outperforms the 6350. for one thing im not sure i understand why. at this point games arent utilizing even six cores so why would an 8 core perform better than a six. i am on a budget but can probably stretch it from a 6350 to an 8350. Is it really worth it if all im doing is gaming? albeit cpu intensive gaming like total war and planetside 2

  1. I have an FX6300 and I can play games easily, in fact my CPU usage when playing is around a quarter so I dont think the 8 core will be necessary for this gen games but probably for next gen.

If you can get the 8350 then go for it :)
  2. also iv never oced before and would like to at least try a mini oc taking either chip to at least 4.2 stock

im wondering if this cooler is enough

Spire Kestrel-King II AMD 64 fan
  3. I have an Fx-8350, it runs everything I throw at it, coupled with an SSD it works great, although power usage is high. The stock cooler isn't bad and can handle a small overclock in well ventilated cases, so I've heard.

Get a Fx 8350 if you can, more cores can't hurt.

You would be able to overclock with that cooler but there are better after market coolers out there.

This cooler is considered one of the high end air coolers before you begin water cooling your system.

Have a look at this, it will give you an idea about CPU cooling.

If gaming is everything you need then the 6300 is awesome, there is no need for going for the much expensive 8350 unless you are into video editing and other similar stuff. Definitely go for the 6300. It is way cheaper and offers similar gaming performance.

Also tell me what graphics card are you pairing it up with?
  6. power usage shouldnt be an issue, ill be running an antec basiq 500w psu

and a 7790 which dosent take too much power....no ssd and no other power using peripherals besides an 8mm case fan
  7. thank you sangeet, just keep in mind i tend to gravitate towards cpu intensive games like mmos, planetside 2 and the total war series

As do I and a I have the 6300 really good. Playing turn based strategy games like Civ 5 quarter to half usage. :D
  9. 6350 for gaming. Save your money for something else. You don't need the 8350 if you have the 7790. :) No bottleneck issues or whatsoever. You can OC it a little bit, amd is an animal in ocing.
  10. and if i upgrade in the future to a 7870 or 79xx 6350 will still be ok?

and thank you to all else who had input

The 7870 would be awesome. It is the cheapest card that handles 1080p high-ultra gaming with ease and really kills the Nvidia cards at the price point. So yeah, it is grreat but you might need a better power supply in the future. But yeah, even 80 plus bronze power supplies are very cheap nowadays so that should not be a much of a problem in the future.
