Now have a fully working rig after lots of problems, and it's great!
Today I reapplied thermal paste, Arctic MX4, a friend had it and it was better than whatever was on my heat-sink before.

I want to run a blend test on Prime95 to just check that everything is now running without a hitch, but I have a worry about my CPU temp.
It idles at about 27c, room temp about 20, but as soon as I start the test the cpu temp will start rising, at about 1c per few sec, the highest it's got is 80c before I stopped the test. Once stopped it pretty much drops to idle within 30 sec.
HW Monitor is used to measure temps, I'm relying on Package temps or Motherboard CPU, whichever is higher.

My case is well cooled and just reapplied paste, (cooler is alpine 64 GT rev2, crap but lol)

Is it normal for the temps to rise like they do? Is it safe to run Prime95?

Solution
Just run Prime95. If your CPU gets too hot, then it will shut itself down and BSOD. 27 idle is actually quite good, and 80 using Prime95 (if that's its peak) would actually be great. Just get Prime95 running for a half hour, and if it works, do a 12 hour to make sure that it's all good.

It only hit 80 before i manually shut it down. Should i just leve it too run and. Let it crash if it will, it can't cause that much damage, can it?
