I want to upgrade to 16G. I want to get the best memory I can so I can upgrade my MB later and still use it. Looking at (1866 to 2133) Currently I have 'ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3' and the CPU 'AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE' I know I must get 16GB (4x4GB) Most everything I've seen in the class I want to get is Quad Channel, that's fine, but it also states 'AMD Llano/AM3+ platforms' I have an AM3 not a AM3+... Any suggestions will they work with my CPU??

Solution
Best bet with a 965 will be 2x8GB (if the mobo will take 8GB sticks, it'll be less stress on the MC (memory controller)) of 1600 DRAM, else 4x4GB of 1600, the 965 Rev 3C was the the first AMD CPU to reliably be able to run at 1600, but have seen extremely few that can run faster sticks, and none in a 16GB config
I would suggest dual channel if you plan on overclocking. Less stress on the controller. Any decent RAM from Corsair Vengeance LP, G.Skill Ripjaws X (or Z), Mushkin Blackline, etc. is fine. The lower the timing and latency, the better. But I wouldn't spend too much money over RAM.

Yes, the RAM should work with your CPU, but only at 1600. Also, one thing I would recommend is getting 2x8GB instead of 4x4GB - it tends to be a bit cheaper and it leaves room to upgrade to 32GB should you feel you require it.

Hope this helps :D

Not sure if that board will handle 2 8GB sticks. MAX on my MB is 16GB Wow lots of reply's in a short time!!

I see a pattern here, I will probably be staying with the 1600 so there is less stress and it will be dual channel instead of quad. Anyone have experience with 2 8GB sticks with that board? I can't find any documentation from ASUS and I don't want to buy and try from Newegg just to do a return
