PowerColor RADEON HD 7850 will 470w be sufficient as long as it has 12v and 24 amps... or do i really need the "minimum 500w"?

Well i was buying a 500w antec but the shipping will be till monday don't want to wait.. well not my fault it told me i have 6 hours left to buy then after 4 hours it wasn't there no more for july 5th..

SO i have this guy selling a 470w from his HP tower and he said it will be ok with that and will not hurt my system to try... is this ok? and i heard as long as the psu is 12v and 24 amp wattage don't matter as much...

Solution

I wouldn't trust HP PSU's as they might damage other components. However, it might work, just don't overclock anything. I recommend a higher quality PSU.

This one is cheaper and also quieter, http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Watt-EPS%C2%A0-CX430/dp/B0092ML1SC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372892718&sr=1-1&keywords=cx430 and it's 80 plus certified.

Yes, the cx430w is fine, according to this review, the 7850 only pulls about 253 at load with a 130w CPU. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1863/12/ I like the CX500 better because of the overhead, PSU's degrade overtime causing less wattage that their intended to.

The PSU might fry the CPU, motherboard, GPU, etc. In a worst case scenario it may actually start a fire lol... Here'a good video of what could happen, hopefully it doesn't http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVN6eOEPins
