I have an MSI 970A-G43 and I want to OC an AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE to 4ghz on that board with a Hyper 212 Evo cooler. I found out that the MOSFETS/VRMs don't have a cooler/heatsink for then. I found this online but I want to make sure itll work.

Not to burst your bubble but I have found that even with aftermarket cooling the MSI 970 boards have VRM heat issues when overclocking. They save money in a very crucial area by utilizing cheap VRM's and I found out with a 970a-G46 (version that has heatsink) and a fan positioned above that heatsink I still had heat issues. So much actually at 1.4 vcore the VRM's were bleeding so much heat into the socket it was causing the cpu to over heat. That being said using those heat sinks and a fan will allow you to overclock a bit I'm just saying don't expect any miracles. Good luck man

Ahh alright, is there even a point in wasting $10-15 plus shipping for heatsinks for a small OC? I wanted to OC from 3.4ghz to 4.0ghz but that's probably too much, would 3.8ghz be good, how much of a speed difference is that and is it worth the spending for vrms? I might just not OC at all, put the stock cooler in there and then use the Hyper 212 for my gaming PC.

Honestly I would just save the money and not OC on this board. I'd say you could hit 3.8 without issues but that's not really much of a gain and wouldn't be worth the effort of an aftermarket cooler and heatsinks for the VRM's. the 965 is still a good chip but it needs a good board to reach its max potential which is 4.0-4.4 Ghz.

Alright thanks, ill just leave it stock. As for the hyper 212 cooler. I will just install it on my main PC if it fits in my case. TY.
