The ASUS m5a97 R2.0 is probably the best motherboard for under $100 imo. Good overclocking board, tons of features including BIOS flashback, USB 3 front header, overall a solid board. EDIT: Also has UEFI BIOS.

That is not good for OCing at all. To be good for OC, it would need a 990FX chipset. Too many of the 970 chipset motherboards have non-cooler VRMs, so OCing is out of the question. I have seen it on that board specifically many times on these forums.

I wouldn't recommend the g46, MSI has lots of problems with their VRM's. Just search up "msi 970a-g46 vrm issue" and you'll see incredible amounts of people having these issues with that board.

It is one of the most widely recommended 970 chipset motherboards that there is. Every single board with a 970 chipset will have VRM problems, as they don't have VRM cooling. This is why they cannot do any overclocks, as the VRM overheats.

A 970 board will work perfectly fine, specifically the one I listed, I've seen people OC this board to 4.5+ without any problems, plus the OP is going to use one graphics card, so what the point with the 990 chipset? besides better power delivery, go with the 970.

Just because you have seen someone do it does not mean that it is recommended or possible for a non-pro to do. I'm sure he/she had a seperate fan or cooling system for the VRM, and I doubt that the OP will want to have to go about that.
And plus, it's always best to prepare for any upgrades. Don't want to lock yourself in a hole ;)

The m5a97 R2.0 has a huge VRM heatsink, what are you talking about?

Take a look at this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/283967-29-adding-heatsinks-chips-asus-m5a97
There is not a heatsink on the VRM.

I said the m5a97 revision 2 (R2.0). The first one didn't have a VRM heatsink and I've never said the m5a97.
