Starting OCing my Gigabyte windforce 760 oc

Just started. This is my first Nvidia card in a while so I'm new to the process but so far I have +50 on top of the factory 0C and + 300 on the memory. ( i know small overclock .. I take my time) ... Core voltage untouched, power target 110 .. (athough it doesn't seem to need to be touched for this oc.)

My CPU is an i7 950 @ 3.68.

GPU Z shows power consumption never goes beyond 60% when running Heaven DX11 benchmark. Is that weird? Core clock stays at a constant 1267 during the benchmark with Kepler boost and temps never exceed 62 degrees with custom fan profile.

I also checked out BF3 online multiplayer. With everything completely maxed at 1080p and msaa X 2 it almost never drops below 55 fps. With MSAA at 4X it's still probably a 60fps average at least but the odd dip below 50fps, so MSAA X 2 It is.

I guess for these clocks, power target didn't even need to be touched?

No, Heaven cannot correctly display the MHz for anything. Use GPU-Z. It says 1267 for any GTX card. Glitchey

It's GPU Z that shows the 1267 during the heaven Benchmark. In the Sensors/core clock section.

Wow, maybe the devs need to update it. Hmmmmm, theres no way. IDK

Why is there no way? On this card a +90 offset will result in a ~1306mhz boost according to Gurdu3d, so this seems about right doesn't it?

What's a better way to check it then? I can see what the clocks stays at while gaming?

I was thinking it would be higher :/
You have one heck of a 760. Maybe yours is a golden chip

You were thinking the boost clock would be higher, or the power consumption would be more than 60% at that clock?

Im confused :(
But GIGABYTE sure knows how to build Graphics Card

Well, I'm getting confused now. I've settled on those clocks of +50 core and +300 mem, as I am not right now trying to push my card to the limit, but I've noticed the card maintains a 1267mhz boost steady in games and in Heaven 4.0 maxed out without even needing power target above 100% and voltage is untouched. The voltage maxes out at 1.2 volts and the TDP percentage shows in GPZ as a max of 60% during Heaven or gaming.

Why is the card only going up to 60% tdp? And if I'm getting 1267hz stable without touching power target does that mean this card will go considerably over 1300mhz?

I just switched to MSI afterburner, and I'm getting some weird results. Even at stock speeds, AFterburner is showing OV limit as a "1" during benchmarking which means the card is reaching it's OV limit at stock settings. This is bad right?

Quote from that linked article:
"Just take note that getting a “1” in OV (over voltage) Max Limit is a serious red flag. It means the ASIC is overly stressed, possibly leading to core damage so either the voltage or clock speeds should be dialed back as soon as possible."

Have you checked your ASIC quality with GPU-Z yet? Simply right-click on the GPU-Z title bar and select "Read ASIC Quality..."

The GPU Z reading for ASIC quality is 76.2%. I am getting the "1" next to OV limit even when I underclock my card by 100mhz on the core.

Yep, I did. I reset everything. Put everything to stock, and still a "1" on the OV limit. Then I underclocked the core clock and still a "1" on the OV limit. Untill I switched to Afterburner I never even knew there was a problem. The temps are good, it seems stable, it accepted every OC I tried with it without down clocking or anything.

I am going to try Precision X and see what it tell me.

I searched all over for a guide to the Reasons readouts, but no luck. It couldn't hurt to call your product support and see what they have to say. Everything is saying that a "1" on OV Max Limit is bad. Nvidia literally says that you run the risk of ‘frying’ the GPU.

I did run across some awesome overclocking guides though, included here for reference.

Oh I get the situation now :)
Smart people are such needed in this world :)
If I was EatMyPizza, I would most likely return the card. If the problem still persist, then since you are an experienced overclocker, maybe try a different vendor that has a more efficient method of delivering power to the GPU. I wish the had a MSI Lightning 760 for you to buy, but maybe it will come in a few weeks. I hope your problem is fixed. I'm going to start OCing graphics cards once my MSI Lightning 770 come in the mail. Gigabyte is a very good company, although every vendor has some defective components in their thousands of cards.

The only problem with returning the card is that it seems like he got a pretty good overclocker. He's pushing towards 1300 MHz boost territory without any effort at all. It's just that darn OV Max Limit flag. Oh well, an ASIC of 76 could be better though...
