Im currently having an issue with how my home setup is. I had a computer downstairs and have a wireless modem/router from verizon. Its the westell 7500.
I just got a 2nd computer and set it up in the upstairs room and had just bought a cheap modem and a linksys WRT54GL and tried plugging it into the phone jack up there and it works but disconnects the downstairs modem. I just found out that I cannot run 2 modems on one dsl line. So is it possible to connect the 2 routers wireless or would i have to run a Ethernet cord from the westell up to the linksys upstairs. Im hoping that I can connect the routers wirelessly and have my computer connected to the linksys router via a ethernet cord and run other stuff like my 360 off the upstairs router as well. the westell is connected via ethernet cord to my downstairs computer. Both routers are factory reset as of now. Any help would be greatly appriciated

Some routers allow this but most only do with alternative firmwares like DD-WRT that open up the features on the router. It could work, but depending on how your house is constructed, how many floors, etc, the performance of the upstairs would probably not be the best, especially trying to run a 360 and other things off it as well over the wireless, gaming would suffer, lag, high pings, etc.

I would at trying to run a cable to connect the two routers, or even better take back the router, buy a long cable and a switch.

Just trying to connect the two routers, things are going to conflict because both will both try to be a DHCP server and assign IP's and IP's may conflict and the routers won't know why.

How would i go about doing that? I have the westell router already connected to the pc im using down stairs. The upstairs linksys is connected by ethernet cord to the desktop up stairs. I was in the firmware for the linksys but i dont know how to change that to an access point. Do i just need the mac address? Do i need to set up a static ip for the linksys?

You only use one modem connected to the service provider - and the first router if the modem is not a router
Modem > router > wireless link > second router > Ethernet cable to computer or wireless connection

Your link goes nowhere...
----update
I see your link... Dd-wrt is a company that makes custom firmware for routers, that really give you ultimate configuration capabilities for the hardware

Yes those instructions you link to are correct

Ive tried multiple set ups and i still cant seem to get the bridge working. I downloaded the DD WRT on my linksys, and followed the steps from http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-turn-an-old-router-into-a-wireless-bridge/ pretty much exacly how everything is set up.
My set up looks like this http://www.cyberciti.biz/networking/howto-connect-two-wireless-router-wirelessly-bridge-with-open-source-software/attachment/wireless-bridge-with-modem_plus_ap_router-and-access-point/

Will i have to set up the modem and put that in the router and then bridge the 2 routers that way?

Ive factory reset both routers and tried multple things and its still not working. Is it possible that its the westell router/modem its an Adsl2+ modem router.
