My question is on my msi z87 gaming G-65 motherboard which two slots is best for me to use? 2 x 4GB Corsair vengeance is the type im installing. I have never built a system before so im a little cautious any reassurance is much appreciated. Thanks.

Solution
slots 1-3 puts the sticks in dual channel, if you went 1-2 it would be single channel which is slower - and as Lego said, yes it's 1600 sticks

Generally, it is considered to install in the slots closest to the processor. You can install according to the marking on the motherboard like DIMM1 , DIMM2. You can install in DIMM1 and DIMM3 which is the best way of populating the memory.

For detailed info check you motherboard manual. Download your manual if you do not 've one - http://www.msi.com/service/download/manual-20917.html

Yes, it is DDR3-1600MHz CL9 memory.

Thank you both for the quick response and stay tuned im sure this wont be the last question I have while piecing this together. I already had one major set back. The Cooler Master Germin II cpu fan that I ordered wont work with my 1150 board. Unless im not seeing things correctly. Brackets are off so I had to just put the stock heat sink that came with the i5-4670k I got. I will get a better heatsink asap and wont do any oc'ing until then.

wELL i CAN'T SEEM TO GET THE MEMORY STICKS DOWN FAR ENOUGH TO WHERE THE LOCKING PIN HITS IN THE SLOT ON THE MEMORY STICKS. iS THERE A WAY TO CHECK AND SEE IF MY BOARD AND THE CORSAIR MEMORY IM USING WILL WORK. i CHECKED THE cORSAIR VENGEANCE SPECS AND THEY CLAIM TO WORK WITH ALL NEW BOARDS AND MINE IS BRAND NEW ONLY BEEN OUT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS i BELIEVE.

mOTHERBOARD IS MSI Z87 Gaming G-65 memory is Corsair Vengeance 2 x 4GB CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9

yES IT DOES GO DOWN INTO THE SLOT BUT STOPS JUST SHY OF BEING ABLE TO LOcK IT IN PLACE. It wouldn't go in at all if it was the wrong way correct. Either way I checked to make sure more than once and it was the correct way.

I just set the board down on the solid wood table im using so it has a solid base to minimize the bending and pushed awfully hard and still no go. If you are sure that the memory should work I will get even more aggressive hoping it goes in. I have tried all 4 slots and both sticks I have and it's the same on everyone.

Wow thats a bit ridiculous how tight the sockets are. I forced the sticks down and they locked. I heard some cracking sounds from the pressure but it came from the top of the memory so I hope it's nothing to worry about. Thanks for the info.

They did the same thing with either the P67 or Z77 mobos, think it was the P67, and were lying to people left and right there was no problem and yet they knew the sockets were like that, had people's rigs going into a constant power on shutdown loop, that's when I quit building on their mobos

I hope it doesn't cause same problems and being my first build im figuring things out as I go. Im concerned about all the connections to the mobo and getting the psu in the case where the wire's and cables will reach everywhere they need to. Im putting the psu in now then will get the mobo installed.

Got the mobo mounted and the psu I thought was ok but when I turned the case the psu slides out and I can't see it getting screwed in anywhere. The couple threaded holes the psu does have are no where close to lining up with anything on the case. Any suggestions on how to keep that sucker in place. It sits snug under two separate tabs that my Antec 100 has but it doesn't seem to hold it if you turn the case in any direction.
