I'm going into my 2nd year of college and decided to finally invest in a new desktop since my old one got passed down and I've been using a laptop for the past 2 years. Hoping to be able to play games, livestream, watch movies, and do schoolwork on the PC. This is my first ever computer build; sorry if I made any obvious compatability mistakes in the build!

I already have a monitor (1920 x 1080), headset, and keyboard.

This is actually already over my intended budget of $1000, so I'm trying to find some other cost savings if possible without really reducing the quality of the parts. I'm also from Canada so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the same parts for these prices. Any words of advice? :)

Hehe, when I first started my build I had a budget of $1500, when then blew out to about $1800. Now its over $2100 all up.
Going over budget is standard fare for PC enthusiasts .

Theres a fair few ways you can lower the price of that build without losing any performance, though if your trying to cut back all the way to $1000 then your going to have to cut performance somewhere.
See if you can recover an optical drive from your old machine, as long as its SATA then your good to go. Will save you a few bucks.

Thanks so much for the advice! I made a few changes to your suggested build, added an SSD and Win8 OS, and removed the mouse because I'm getting it this week. Let me know what you think? :D
