Hi guys im using 2x HD7870 in CF and was looking on moving to single GPU for less heat and better performence! Would the GTX770 4GB be a lot better? i'll be moving from an 24 inch tft to a sony LED 32inch.Thanks

Solution
A single GTX 770 anyway. CrossFire has multiple issues like micro stuttering , flicker , heat , noise. A GTX 770 on the other hand will run quite , have less heat , no issues. You might be interested in a HD 7970GHz as well. AMD's Never Settle Reloaded offer will give you 4 games as well. So the choice is yours. Always Remember , 2xMid end GPU < 1xHigh end GPU.

Couldn't agree more. Though, I think the Never Settle promo is officially "Out of Stock".

1 top end card is just a better overall bet than running xfire/SLI, unless you're overflowing with case and want to run 2x high end cards (and can just disconnect one if you get SLI issues). In truth SLI/xfire is mostly fine, but my philosophy is that if you need 2 cards to get to max settings, your cards are probably dated in the first place. In fact- I wouldn't consider any two card setup over a GTX 770 except mayyybe 2x GTX 760s or 2x GTX 660Ti. Anything else just gets into a quagmire of headache or price inefficiency.

Ah ok cheers for the info guys ! to be honest i really don't know why i went for 2x GPU's ??????? " FACE SLAP" i'm going to get Rid of the 7870's and get a GTX 770 4GB for my Samsung 32inch LED 1080p ! i'm using a 750 psu so i hope it can run the 770 okay ?

yeah it's the same psu thats running the 2 cards now ! i think i will get the GTX770 4GB now as it seems way much better than the cards that i have now ! even tho i've only had the cards for 5 months i just feel it's better to just get one high end card that will output much better than 2x CF or SLI !!!!

Agreed. My 3GB HD 7950 has hardly reached 1.0GB of memory usage on a 22inch 1080p Display. 2GB is enough for 32inch. The 4GB version is good only if you have SLI or multiple monitors in mind. But then again , the GTX 770's GK104 can't really utilise 2GB of memory well. And you thought 4GB is good. :)

How are you finding the 7990? It's a good deal at the moment. Over here, some are dropping as low as £450 on special deals - I.e. Less than a 780.

It's close to the 7990, yet a lot cheaper. I just got a 7870 Tahiti LE to replace a 6770, and for me it's brilliant, just the right balance of performance and price.

Another late reply from me this time!
I'm playing BF4 on my 7970, returned the 7870LE to Amazon after it developed coil whine. They were very good about it, and I ended up getting an Asus 7970 with the DirectCU cooler for £230 (it went to £199 the next day on a one day only deal...).

Getting on well, it's going underwater in the near future and then I'll be replacing my FX6300 with something a little more powerful.

For me, R9-290s and GTX770s are the best deals out at the moment. I did see a 7990 at £389, but no such thing since.

I keep seeing people bash CFX/SLI, but from everything I've seen microstutter is a thing of the past as long as you have a good motherboard to support dual x16s. it seems to spawn from frame time variances between cards which is caused by driver issues from a bunch of the sources I've read about the problem in. 7850 CFX is better than the 7970Ghz edition in terms of performance, which is the AMD equivalent to the 770... The 770 beats it in a 2:1 split in performance as far as FPS goes, but the frame time variances between the 770 and 7970Ghz are quite far away I don't remember the exact numbers but whenever I saw it I remember thinking to myself how does this card even keep fluid frame rates. Now that I'm done bashing AMD, Nvidia seems to pay a hefty price for premiums which I don't like either but my point of explaining this scenario is to end in "7870 Ghz" absolutely stomps on performance of the 770. Not to say the 770 is a bad card (because I just bought one for about $400) but you don't have to upgrade if you're rocking dual 7870s

You do make sense but i think i'd rather have 1x 4GB than 2x GB's !

I would only prefer 1x4GB if my screen is 1440p.. Which is not :)
