Should I return this freshly unboxed case?

I have just bought a Z11 Plus mid tower case and unboxed it, giving it a standard check - all fine except for this one tiny problem here:

The picture quality is not the greatest, so apologies for that. But you can clearly see a USB cable with two cables going into it - the top one has a black tape around the end of the larger cable, and the bottom wire has what appears to be exposed metal fragments and no tape (not fallen off either, nothing is at the bottom of the case). Is this safe to have this? Should I tape this myself or should I return the case and ask for another unit?

Thanks for reading!

That picture is not too clear. Are you sure it's not solder and shrink wrap rather than black tape and metal from the wires? Either way it's a mistake on their part if they left uninsulated wires in the case. You should return it immediately rather than put tape on it. Although the tape would be much quicker than waiting for the return.

Those are definitely metal wires loose, and as blackbird has said, it appears frayed. The other wire feels like it's taped, but I'm not an expert - either way it has something on it that this one does not.

Edit - It doesn't appear to be tape, so it's likely what you suggested then. either way, the bottom wire doesnt have anything like this on it.

Thanks for all the replies - my components arent due until next week mostly, so I could return with time.

Somehow it just looked like a big ball of solder to me from the picture. I can't see the wires. But yeah.. I'd say what you thought was tape is probably shrink wrap.

"I have opened the case to perform the usual checks to ensure the case is safe and up to standards. Everything is perfect except for one of the internal wires for the USB header, which has no protecting shrink wrap on and bare metal or solder loose. I am not be comfortable with this for my case. I hope this is a one-off, and would like to request a replacement case."

This sound good?

And can someone tell me where to find the manufacturers reference number? On the sticker on the box it came in?

Sounds good, the number should be on the sticker.
