Looking for an appropriate gpu to play the game Star Wars the old republic. I am not tech savy and bought a pc JUST to play this game.
Here are my specs, any help would be greatly appreciated:

Optiplex 760
OS: windows xp
Ram: 2g
Processor: intel core duo
Power: 240 watts
Has pcie

It's looking like I am at the MINIMUM for all these specs. I am ok with this. I can build a better machine later I just want to make sure I like the game first.
Price isn't an issue with the card.
Thank you for your help!!

Solution
The best solution for your situation is 7750 card, it doesn't require power supply upgrade. Also, stronger cards can be bottlenecked by your processor.

I linked Sapphire low profile card above, now I will add cheaper solution

PowerColor AX7750 1GBK3-H Radeon HD 7750 1GB Newegg $89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131481
NCIX Reg. Price: $92.48 USD, After Mail In Rebate: $72.48 USD http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=70112&vpn=AX7750%201GBD5-DH&manufacture=PowerColor

There is only one more 7750 card which can fit in your Optiplex, but it is priced higher at this time.

If you live not in USA, let me know.

Anything else I can help you with?

P.S. If you finding any answers particularly helpful to you, please...
What are the system requirements for the game? Minimum

Processor:

* AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better
* Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or better

Operating System:
* Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later

RAM:

* Windows XP: 1.5GB RAM
* Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM

Note: PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB of RAM.
Star Wars: The Old Republic requires a video card that has a minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM as well as support for Shader 3.0 or better. Examples include:

* ATI X1800 or better
* nVidia 7800 or better
* Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better

What is your processor model? Are you passing Core 2 Duo requirement?

You did not provided all information, so I will try to guess.
You mentioned 240 watt PSU, this is what I found
DC power supply:
Wattage
mini tower 305W non-EPA; 255W EPA
desktop 255 W
small form factor 235 W
ultra small form factor 220 W

To be sure, take a look below and identify your form factor

It is seems like you have some type of smaller version, in this case you need low profile card.
The best option is HD 7750, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002

This card requires only 55 watt, not 400 watt as stated in manufacturer requirements http://www.hwcompare.com/12822/geforce-gt-640-ddr3-vs-radeon-hd-7750/

I think this is it. You can just get this card, it will work in any form factor EXCEPT USFF! If you processor is faster than 2.0 you good to go!

Sorry it took a while to reply. My computer is the MT (mini tower) as listed in your solution. Also, I do have intel core duo processor.
I'm not quite sure what your other questions were so let me know if I can help with that..

I took it to my local computer store. They said I should look into moving everything in my optiplex 760 to a new case with a 400 watt psu for only $49. I don't know if that is a good move, technically I could run a better card with more power but do my processor and ram limit the benefits. Would I be better off just buying a gpu for this system and saving up to build a new pc from scratch?
Thoughts?
