How does this compare with other mobos around it's price range? It's exactly at $150 and seems to have good reviews. First time building a PC so I'm not sure. Pairing this with i5 4670k and 7970ghz GPU.

Get the Asrock Extreme4. Been around for longer (although still current revision). It's a great motherboard. On the MSI one, you're pretty much paying for the dragon :p
And good luck with the build! :)

Huh? They were released simultaneously, right along with the Haswell launch. :heink:

But the Extreme4 moniker has been around since before Haswell... The Extreme4 is not solely available with Z87 chipset, it was used as a Z77 motherboard for quite some time.

Lol? First off, the name doesn't really mean anything. And secondly, the G45 name was used for earlier generations too, eg. the MSI Z77A-G45 and Z68A-G45.

I have the MSI Z87 G45 motherboard and I think its great. Great bios and the styling is awesome. Was going to stick with what I know and go Asus as I've never had an MSI before but I have absolutely no regrets.

I'd second on the Rock Z87 Ex4, great board (4 builds no problems), OCs well, the Rock has much better QC and support if you ever need it
