Considering an ASUS 7950 HD upgrade, opinions?

I'm currently running a 3 monitor setup at 4605x900 resolution with 768mb GDDR5 usable VRAM on my 460 GTX SLI setup. Problem is, my games are constantly crashing (Most anyways, low end games not so much but what's the fun in that?) and I suspect my 768mb of usable VRAM to be the culprit because they run just fine on a single monitor. I'm HEAVILY considering an ASUS 7950 HD 3GB GDDR5 single (Will X-Fire later) and was wondering if it would actually be an upgrade over my 460 GTX SLi setup? Any thoughts? Opinions? I currently have both of my 460's stable at 900/1800/3600 OC (Didn't bother to overclock memory because of the lack of heat sinks there and I wouldn't notice much from it anyways, so core was the obvious choice)

Yes, you should see a difference. However, what I recommend doing is going the extra $50 and getting the Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 GHz Edition card, which is very overclocked, as well as a step up from the 7950.
With 3GB VRAM and a 384-bit memory bus, a single 7970 GHz should do this setup very well. Since the resolution is only 4605x900, there may not even ever be a need to CFX the cards until you upgrade to 5760x1080. For now, the Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 GHz Edition would beast this setup. :)

Here are my options for you:

My recommendation:

TWO HD 7950s about 500 dollars
ONE HD 7970 for 370 dollars

Other choices:

ONE GTX 780 for 650 dollars
ONE HD 7970 Sapphire Toxic 6GB card for 530
TWO GTX 760 4GB for 580 dollars
TWO HD 7970s 740 dollars

Even though I have Nvidia cards I'm much more an AMD enthusiast. Nvidia's drivers as of late have been absolutely horrendous, which is unusual coming from the graphics "top dog." I see AMD leading with a bright future. Don't misunderstand me though, I absolutely LOVE my 460's, especially once they were OC'ed. Run games maxed just fine with at least 60+ fps. It's just time for an upgrade, you know?

As far as price/performance goes what would be the better option? Two 7950's, or one 7970ghz ed.? Keep in mind I will always be using 3 monitors to game and would prefer max settings. Also, that Sapphire Toxic sounds mighty sick.

First off, two 7950s is $600. Second of all, that is beyond excessive for a system with (essentially) two 1080p monitors. One 7970 GHz or 7950 would be fine; two 7950s would be extreme overkill. It's best to get a 7970 GHz now and then you can get another later when monitor upgrades come.
Your options are quite excessive as well; I don't think that any more than $350 should be spent in one go on an upgrade like this.

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, but also want to get the absolute most bang for my buck. I'm likely going to sell my 460 SLi setup and pool it with my spare cash for a single card. AMD's single GPU Eyefinity capability is a nice step up from Nvidia's Surround from what I hear as well.

Yes. Hence why I think it is the best idea to go with the 7970 GHz; the best bang-for-your-buck card that you're going to find (especially since the Vapor-X one is a spectacular deal), and you can always get another one down the road. :)
