My company's IT guy selling xeon processor for very cheap lets say 2K as he says that there motherboards are for near about 50K. I wanna know is xeon can be used for gaming purpose on a Asus board? I don't know the model yet.

Solution
Xeons aren't any better or worse for gaming than Core branded processors. There are a few minor differences between Xeon processors and Core processors but the two biggest and most important are:

1. Xeon processors have support for ECC RDIMM memory.

2. Some Xeon processors have support for multi socket systems.

There are some Asus motherboards which support Xeon processsors, and some Asus motherboards which support both Xeon and Core processors. In General, anything marketed under the C200/C600 chipset will support Xeon and Core, and anything marketed under 6/7 series will support only Core.

For gaming purposes there's no reason at all to go with a Xeon processor or C200/C600 chipset.

Usually no, some require a certain type of RAM which is slower.

They are mostly for reliability and servers.

You would most likely be better off getting a desktop CPU. It will be much cheaper and perform better.

For a gaming processor, that's ridiculously high, presuming you mean US Dollars. I seriously doubt it could offer better gaming performance than an i7-3970X that sells for $1k, which in turn is overpriced compared to a 3570k ($220) or 4670k ($235).

Usually you want a higher clocked cpu for gaming. Xeons are usually clocked fairly low but have lots of cores, to bad 8 cores is useless for gaming. The price is terrible compared to an i5, which is more than sufficient for most gaming.

If you have the money to spend, get an i7 4770k or i7 3930k and put the rest of the money elsewhere, such as gpu or cooling because those cpus once overclocked will run HOT!

Your IT guy is full of SH*T!!! OR Trying to scam you!!!
50K is WAAAAAAAY overpriced for a Xeon motherboard! Even dual and quad Xeon motherboards are cheaper than that. For the price to get that high it would have had to be a custom made/custom ordered motherboard OR perhaps ordered when it was near bleeding edge technology.

The Xeon E3 - 1290 v2 is the fastest server CPU that was just released in may for a retail price of $884.

But all of that doesn't matter because your money is much better spent on a Core i7 if you want extreme gaming and the Core i5 is even cheaper and will run any game you want to play.
Beyond that it's all about your video card... Better frame rates come from better video cards. CPU does play a roll but if you had a Core i7 you wouldn't need to worry about needing any more CPU power than that. Spend your money on a high end video card (NOT A WORKSTATION CARD). Get an AMD HD 7970 or a nVidia GTX 680. One of those cards alone will allow you to run any game at MAX graphical settings.

Hold on people. Mysticalsam said the IT guy gave the motherboard price as 50K, but we don't know what currency that's supposed to be in. Mysticalsam, perhaps you could clarify that for us? I doubt it's US dollars, because the most expensive xeon motherboard I can find on Google Shopping is only US$21K.

331.42 USD right? $33.14 would be great.

How exactly is a Xeon crappy? Most newer xeon's are just better binned C2D, C2Q or Bloomfield/Westmere. They'll perform better then their desktop counterparts

Actually I asked him for a demo. He showed me a demo on Far Cry 3 on low and it lagged like hell , So I said no , I don't care.

This all seems a bit fishy. A Xeon for about $33? And Xeon processors are designed for servers and stuff like that. Personally, I'd get an intel Core and a standard ATX motherboard.
