So I'm building a new computer and I realized the SATA cables I have, recycled from my old desktop, are too short to attach the hard drive to the motherboard. Naturally, I ordered a few new cables of the proper length when I realized this. I'm a bit impatient and with the 4th of July the cables won't arrive until late next week.

Would it be alright for me to temporarily keep my hard drive loose in my case attached with the shorter SATA cable while I wait for the proper cable to arrive?

It won't hurt anything. I've done this in the past for temporary builds or when doing a desk test of the components. As long as you're not moving it around while it's running you'll be fine. :)
