So in january I put together a custom pc but in the last month or two my power supply has been making a buzzing or whining noise when everything is under load in a game ...should I be worried about it damaging my pc ?

Solution
Your power supply has build in surge protection as well as some other noise filtering.

All quality power supplies have these parts, while some cheaper(not the super cheap garbage) have been known to remove the surge protection, the filtering should still be in place. I am 99% sure you have both as only FSP cuts surge protection on cheaper units.

You are hearing a vibration caused by the extremely fast switching of a computer power supply. While not dangerous, it bugs many a user.

No, it will not damage your PC or components. It is a common thing in older PSU's to make that distinctive sound. If it is really bothering you then you can always replace it/send it back to Corsair, what with the warranty being so long on Corsairs PSU's.

Currently I dont have a back up power supply so I may just purchase another one ...the coil whine isent loud enough to be heard over my headphones most of the time but I dont want to take the chance it could get worse so I think I will replace it

Yep that is a good solid PSU. I am currently on a Cooler Master at the moment, but I am getting this soon Corsair AX760.

Some have reported coil whine (i.e. a high pitched whine not a buzz or hum) with their Seasonic X Series X650. It is more luck of the draw that it'll happen.

If you do decide to get it, it is more than capable of powering a system with a GeForce GTX 770.
