Hello,

I have recently upgraded my desktop to a gigabyte ga-ep35c-ds3r. Everything works fine with the exception of the DVD burner. It worked on the day I changed the MOBO prior to the upgrade, so I don't think it's a faulty drive.

It powers up fine, and I can open it and close it, but I can't find it in the BIOS. I tried changing the IDE cable, but that didn't work. I tried setting the jumpers to master, slave and cable select, but none of them worked. I also tried getting an IDE to SATA converter, but that made no difference. I also tried two different SATA cables.

I'm pretty much all out of ideas, so I was hoping someone on here might be able to help me out. Any suggestions welcome

Damien

Here's the thing.

I've used windows all my life, but recently decided to try dual booting to ubuntu. Since the recent upgrade, I am unable to boot to windows, but ubuntu runs fine. From what I gather, this is a relatively common issue with windows7. The problem for me now is that I am not as comfortable in the linux environment as I would be in Windows.

Is there an equivalent to device manager in ubuntu?
