I purchased the drive to use with my dish network DVR for additional storage. Worked great after I allowed the DVR to reformat the drive. I no longer have a need for the DVR external storage so I would like to use the drive with my PCs, Windows XP and Windows 8. I can plug the drive in to the usb ports and it shows up in the device manager but does not allow me to use the device for storage, presumably because of incorrect formatting for the computers. Even though the drive is displayed in the device manager, I have not found how to reformat the device for the computer OS. BTW we have a second Go Flex drive on my wife's computer and it works great but it was connected straight out of the box.

Thanks for the suggestion but since the computer does not recognize the GoFlex drive as a storage device, it does not list "format" in the Actions tab.

In Disk Management I deleted the volumes on my Seagate GoFlex 1TB external Hard drive Then When I right clicked on the disk it gave me options to convert and then to format the drive.
