i currently have:
AMD FX6300
gigabyte 78mlt-s2p motherboard
4gb corsair vengance low profile ram
hyper 212 evo cooler (as of tomorrow).

however, after reading a lot of forums, it has been advised not to overclock on this mobo because of vrm configuration? something about heatsinks or whatever? i have good airflow over the motherboard with 2 80mm fans blowing air across the motherboard to the exhaust 120mm fan so am i ok to overclock? i'm not going crazy and going for 4.8ghz or anything, i think up to a maximum of about 4.2ghz depending on temperatures.

edit: it is either the revision 4.o or 5.x, unsure as to which it is, i'm not able to get to the pc at the moment to check. i think this is important.

edit2: it is the revision 5.x model with 'lower rds mofset design'. does this create benefits when overclocking, cooling running mofsets?

On my phone atm, but iirc the issue of OC on that board is not as much heat (but yes rev 5 is better) as it is phase power design. For a nominal OC like yours with good airflow over the heatsink, 4-4.2 is doable
