Hi So i just got my brand new gaming PC maybe 3 months ago i5-3570k , 8gigs ram , Asus P8Z77-V LK. and i am noticing some lag while gaming world of warcraft now i know that your Motherboard prosessor or video card can't become infected or be slowed down by malware and viruses. I have a question Would doing a wipe and reload on my 1TB Barracuda SATA III w/ 64MB Cache Make my PC brand new again? i just recently bought an SSD and i am also paranoid if that will get infected if i run both my 1TB Barracuda SATA III w/ 64MB Cache and my SSD.

So to make it easier on you guys my question would doing a wipe and reload make my PC run like brand new again? i don't want to have to run out and buy a new HDD just so it feels like no lag while i game.

Also last question- I just bought a brand new SSD and i am worried that if i install it and use both my HHD and my SSD together would that also infect it or what ever is making my HDD run slow? ( i have not installed it yet )

Thanks guys for your help in advanced its much appreciated! :)

Yes im a noob don't know much about Storage

Have you tried running a anti-virus scan first?
That's what you usually do if you think you got a virus, not reinstall windows.
Also, WoW is a real internet connection dependent game: Crappy internet connection = crappy WoW.

yes i already did virus scan ( Microsoft Security Essentials ) and Malarebytes scan

My Internet Connection isnt wireless 25MBPS (Shaw high speed internet i am from canada)

Not sure what is slowing down experiencing some lag while playing world of warcraft maybe its my HDD i may have downloaded somthing funky to cause it to slow down? But if i wipe and reload everything should be fine right?

Also i just bought a brand new SSD and i am worried if i install it would that effect my SSD if i have both my HDD and my SSD installed?

What realm are you on?
Like, I am on khaz modan, which puts me on the los angeles realm server. When I was living in Montana I was getting bad pings(70-120ms). But I moved to los angeles and now ping is almost zero lol.

If you are on the los angeles realms then that might be your issue as well.

Also, reloading windows could make your computer run faster. If you are reinstalling a oem build(like if it came preinstalled when you bought it) then your computer could have lots of garbage programs that could slow it down a little. Heck, you don't have to reinstall windows to get rid of garbage that you don't use.

I am on illidan and i don't see my realm on that link you showed me http://www.wowwiki.com/US_realm_list_by_datacenter

And no i got it built from scratch so its the system builders windows 7

So if i do a wipe and reload it should be fine right? Will everything run faster like it was brand new again? because i don't want to have to go out and buy a new HDD. Like i said before i have a brand new SSD i havent installed yet and i plan on installing wow on it and my OS and i know WoW will run alot faster but do i risk infecting my SSD if i run both SSD and HDD ( assuming there is somthing wrong with my HDD)

I also live in manitoba , winnipeg not sure if that helps ya any

I see things are getting complicated here, so the best bet is to format and clean install of OS. I assume it will run faster than before. Make sure to backup the valuables.

Than install the SSD without fear of getting it infected.

But you will not gain much putting your games on SSD. Surely it will load fast(the map) and performance wise there will be no noticeable difference.

Happy computing and happy gaming. Cheers.

So you are saying it wont infect my SSD if i install it then?

Don't assume that something is an "infection" if one program is running slow. What is slow exactly? 10fps? 20? more? You could just have your settings up too high for your hardware if you don't have a video card. The i5 onboard video is OK but even WOW will stress it on higher settings. If you got an SSD just stick your existing hard drive as a secondary drive, install Windows clean on the SSD, update your drivers, and get back to work. If the only thing you see being slow is WoW, it's very unlikely you have a virus.
