RAM CPU cooling space issue

I might know someone who impulse bought a new CPU (i7 3930) and RAM (16GB Corsair Vengance 4x4GB 2400) for upgrades. Let's just say they also bought a Noctua NH-DH14 for CPU cooling, neglecting to consider that the high profile RAM may not leave enough room for the heatsink/fan clearance. Now the poor soul I know understands that Noctua setup is one of the best cooling solutions out there; however, the RAM in question is high performance.

It seems that something has to give. Should my impudent friend switch cooling solutions in favor of the performance RAM, or return the RAM for something lower profile and possibly less zippy in favor of the keeping the CPU as cool as possible??

THANKS!!!

-Concerned friend who definitely not the friend himself.

Solution
Return the ram. The performance increase will be barely noticeable, and you always want to keep your CPU as cool as possible. Never exchange a cool cpu for better performance, especially when the performance gain is little to nil!! Happy Gaming~~ :)

Awesome, that's for the quick response! I was sorta leaning that way just because I know how good the Noctua products are.

This is the RAM I bought: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233344

Would you suggest downgrading to 2133 or trying to buy a lower profile 2400 set? I know that you can play around with RAM speed and timings and what not.

Maybe something more like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104313
???

Thanks again for the input!

Yes, the low profile you linked should fit. But seriously, a waste of money. You will not see much gain if any in performance over 2133/1866~~Ram speed is a gimmick if you mainly play games, just as much a gimmick as you dont need more than 8 gb for gaming. Save your cash, p/u a good set of 1600/1866 or 2133 if you must, but the only advantage is you will be able to post high ram specs and make ram geeks jealous!! Happy Gaming :)
