A friend has an old dualcore system that has suddenly stopped working.
When I turn the power on, no signal goes to the monitor, fans does not spin and the powersupply fan does not spin too. Nothing powers up.
I opened the case and tried to boot again and then I hear a faint clicking sound coming from the powersupply, and I see no light coming from the motherboard (EMX-IG31-AVL model). I tried swapping the powersupply from another pc I have, (true rated thermaltake). When I switched the power button, POOF! the powersupply gave off a little smoke after a little cracking noise. So there goes my powersupply too.
Question: IS it definitely the motherboard that needs replacement?
Are the other parts coonected to the motherboard affected by that blast of the powersupply, especially the processor and the ram?

I really need help. I am laready thinking of buying a new lga775 motherboard but I went here first instead to ask you guys if I'm heading to the correct solution.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Hi, It looks indeed like a faulty motherboard. Hard to say if it's only the board. A faulty component (like graphics card or hard drive or the power supply) could damage the board.
