1st build boot problem

I've just finished putting together my first pc and it powers up fine, all lights and fans work, however i have it conneced to a TV with a HDMI cable and theres just a blank screen saying no signal, i've tried 2 TV's and the HDMI ports on the mobo and GPU but still nothing, any ideas? Specs are:

Ok i've removed the GPU and powered on and, i'm getting something on the screen now (it says 'Insert boot media device and press a key' - i'm guesing it means windows?) how do i get it to run with my GPU inserted? Thanks

When the GPU is installed, i've tried the HDMI port on both the GPU and motherboard, with both, nothing comes on screen ( it's connected to a TV aswell if that makes a difference)

Yeah, the fans spin up . i've just put the GPU back in and plugged into the GPU and still nothing, however now it wont power off with the power button, i have to switch off the psu

Ok problem fixed, i'm not sure how or why, but it's working now. I do know why it wouldn't power down properly though, i hadn't re installed one of the RAMs fully into the slot. Thanks for your help.
