Im looking to get a new video card a GTX 760 but my PSU is a 450w 12v Antec VP450 psu

I am running a i3 2100 dual core 3.1 ghz

a stock dell inspiron motherboard and 8 gigs of stock dell ram.

I wanted somethig i can SLI in the future and come october the 600 series graphics card will stop making certain models. Do you belive this will work out well?

Solution

Hi - Your one pcie connector short with that PSU to power a gtx760.
You are right at the limit amperage wise on the +12v rails to run
that system, so there's no headroom(don't stress test or OC).

I recommend if you are going to get that GTX 760, you upgrade your PSU.

well a gtx760 requires two 6pin pci-e connectors and i don't think that ur psu have two and moreover it the gtx760 needs at least a 500W psu. u would be somewhat fine with ur cpu but don't expect to do SLI in future with that cpu. the cpu of yours at more of it's beat can handle a gtx760 and noway u can run two gtx760's with that cpu and psu. There would be a huge bottleneck. change ur psu to at a corsair CX500W if u want something for now to run the single gtx760. If u plan to do SLI change the processor(cpu) along with the psu.

Aye i forgot to mention that i will be building a whole brand new PC in the future that could handle SLI. But looks like ill have to buy a new psu in general for a 760 , Ive only got the one 6 pin pci-e connector. What would be the best reccomendation for a good graphics card on what i have currently that i can SLI or crossfire later that i can have on this 450w psu

650ti, 660, reference 7850, 7790 (single gpu only, SLI,CF requires PSU upgrade).

well as i said earlier, get a CX500W if u want to upgrade ur psu and gpu only(to a gtx760). To do SLI in future,u need something like the corsair HX650/HX750 and a good cpu like at least the i5-3470 or something better like the i5-3570k.
