So I just got a new laptop and I've been putting it through its paces. When playing games I've seen my CPU hit 99c and my (Nvidia) GPU hit 87c. These are below their supposed thermal limits but just barely (1c on the CPU and 3c on the GPU). Can I continue to game without any long term problems or should I avoid putting this type of strain on the components? Thanks in advance.

You typically want to avoid those kinds of temps, they wont harm anything, but if the temps go up just slightly, it could.

Since it is a laptop, the cooling is not very good; however, for the sake of longevity, I would stay away from anything that brings it to those temperatures as much as possible; 1 degree away from the TJ Max is not good.

That's what I thought. Guess I won't be playing many games on this :\
