I've recently received my RMAd MSI radeon 7870 after a freeze/lock up issues and Im having even more now. I've been using Intel HD graphics 4000 for the time I was without a video card. Now when I turned off my computer and installed the Graphics card and then booted up my computer it was all fine. I could see the bios and everything. but once i got to the windows start up screen it was just black. I couldn't see the "preparing your desktop" screen at all.

I have tried disabling the intel graphics and installed the latest AMD catalyst driver but the problem persists.

My graphics card is connected to one monitor through HDMI and I can still run my computer in safe mode with networking. But this is just ridiculous, I havent been able to use my graphics card for 3 months since I've got it and I'm really getting desperate now. If anyone has had a similar problem or knows how to fix it PLEASE give me any info you may have. Thank you.

What is the brand of motherboard you are using, and its model number.
You may of missed a setting in the bios.
There should be an option to select the Pci-e card slot as the primary graphics adapter. once you have set that right it should work.

Completely remove all GPU drivers in safe mode then try to reinstall.

My motherboard is the P8 Z77-VLX motherboard. Thanks for the advice! I'll look in the Bios once again, throughly.

Alright, heres what I did. I first went into Bios and enabled display from PCIe. then I went into safe mode. I completely cleaned my computer of all GPU drivers thoroughly. I restarted my computer crossing my fingers and it went to the windows desktop just fine. Now heres where the problem starts again, after installing the latest beta driver and rebooting my computer, I get the exact same problem as before. I'm going to try cleaning the drivers again and installing from the disk since I couldn't in safe mode. If you can give me any more advice I would be forever in your debt, thanks again.

EDIT: I've uninstalled all the drivers again and I just restarted my computer because it says it has installed the HD 7800 series driver. And to my dismay I arrive at the same dillema again
